Minnesota Supplier Enters Canadian Market With Assistance from Food Export - Midwest

by Food Export | Jul 13, 2020
In March 2019, Healthy America LLC dba The Amazing Chickpea, located in Maple Grove, Minnesota, in the 3rd Congressional District successfully entered the Canadian Market for the first time.

Earlier that year, Sunil Kumar, Founder & President, had expressed reservations about exporting to Canada, saying that “the new tariffs costs made buyers reluctant to work with them.” However, through utilization of Food Export - Midwest’s online educational materials, the Food Export Helpline™, and allocated funding from Food Export - Midwest’s Branded Program, the Minnesota Supplier was able to capture sales of $25,000.

The Amazing Chickpea is a producer of chickpea flour and spreads and competes well in the natural/organic nut butter market. With utilization of allocated funding from Food Export-Midwest’s 50% cost reimbursement Branded Program, the supplier updated their international website and label information, expanded their online presence, and conducted in-store promotions and product demonstrations. In the last month alone, they received three international leads from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong through coverage in the Food Export Link Magazine.

Healthy America LLC dba The Amazing Chickpea has utilized Food Exports programs and services since 2018, participating in the Branded Program, the Online Product Catalog, Buyers Missions, Focused Trade Missions, Webinars and the Food Export Helpline™. “I am very thankful for the Food Export Branded Program and staff,” says Founder & CEO Sunil Kumar, “They are very helpful and I cannot thank everyone enough.”

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
