Gaining Contacts & Export Sales in China

Participating in Food Export’s Branded Program for the past five years has helped Marathon Ginseng International Inc. from Weston, Wisconsin gain many foreign buyer contacts and increase total export sales. Specifically this past year the Wisconsin Supplier earned $500,000 in direct and indirect export sales to China and Hong Kong with the assistance of their allocated Market Access Program (MAP) Branded Program funds.

Marathon Ginseng utilized their program funds to promote their brand in China and Hong Kong with a strong advertising strategy that included conducting international trade seminars, exhibiting at trade shows, and making label modifications. These tactics also helped the supplier gain 8 new foreign contacts and create 1 new agent relationship in China and 6 new foreign contacts and create 1 new agent relationship in Hong Kong.

Dr. Ming Tao Jiang moved to Wisconsin in 1996 and relocated to Marathon County in 2009.  It was here among the ginseng gardens that led him to a better understanding of the benefits that come from Wisconsin Ginseng.  Since then he has rapidly found success in marketing Wisconsin Ginseng to Asian Markets who are eager to obtain that state’s product. Various marketing campaigns include online advertising, social media marketing and media campaigns.  Dr. Jiang efforts to promote Wisconsin Ginseng has been broadcasted on many channels with China Central Television (CCTV) and interviewed with journalist from around the world.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
