Pennsylvania Company Gains Export Sales

by Food Export | Dec 13, 2017
In 2016, Unique Pretzel Bakery Inc. located in Reading, PA, in the 6th Congressional District, attended Food Export’s Natural Products Expo West Buyers Mission where they met with multiple international buyers. As a result, they made a sale of $24,408. In addition, the company gained two new foreign contacts, two new agent relationships and added new staff members to their team.

Unique Pretzel also utilizes a MAP funded Branded Program at Food Export. Rob Rhoads, Brand Sales Manager of Unique Pretzel Bakery Inc., stated, “The program is the reason we export.”

The company began when the Spannuth Family started baking both hard and soft pretzels in the late 1800’s using their unique process. The raw pretzel would set and when ready, it would be placed into the oven where it would open creating bubbles and crevices that were crispy, yet crunchy, and full of flavor. This became known as “Splits.” To this day, the 6th generation of the Spannuth Family proudly uses the original recipe.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
