Pennsylvania Supplier Increases Market Share in Jamaica & Philippines

by Food Export | Jan 26, 2017
Herr Foods, a widely known snack brand from Nottingham, Pennsylvania, has been an active participant in many Food Export-Northeast programs over the years. Herr’s has been exporting their products for nearly 30 years but they are always looking to expand distribution in foreign markets, and Food Export’s programs and services have provided them an easy avenue to make credible connections with buyers from many markets around the world.

In 2016, Herr Foods utilized Food Export’s Market Access Program (MAP) funded Branded Program to increase their market share. Utilizing the 50% cost reimbursement for tradeshow expenses and marketing promotions helped Herr Foods focus on specific target markets with cost assistance thus enabling them to increase their marketing strategy.

In the Philippines a strong development of advertising and promotions was key for the Pennsylvania supplier to gain $75,000 in new export sales and project another $500,000 of sales over the next twelve months. This would note a 20% increase in sales to this market for Herr Foods.

Herr Foods focused on growth opportunities in Jamaica too last year and strategized to increase sales and expand market distribution with strong plans of advertising and in-store sampling events. These strategies helped the supplier achieve new sales to Jamaica for $75,000 and they project another $125,000 in sales over the next twelve months. This sale also marks a 20% increase in sales to the market for Herr Foods.

Herr Foods, founded in 1946 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, produces snack food products for both retail and food service distribution. Herr Foods began as a local Pennsylvania potato chip manufacturer and they now also produce other snack products such as pretzels, kettle chips, corn chips, popcorn, and cheese curls for worldwide distribution.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural product; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
