Ohio Supplier with Great History Earns New Export Sales

by Food Export | Jul 11, 2016
In July of 2015, the Tony Packo Food Company, from Toldeo, Ohio attended Food Export’s Midwest Buyers Mission where they met with buyers from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Thailand and Australia.

At the Mission, Bob Schmalzried, Director of Retail Operations for Tony Packo's, was able to make four new foreign buyer contacts and also made a sale to a new export market. This actual sale totaling over $1,700 was a great start for this Ohio supplier to enter the Australian market. Projecting to sell $5,000 more to this buyer over the next twelve months the company is optimistic about their new export opportunTonyPackosity.

Tony Packo’s from Toledo, Ohio has a great history and an exciting story of how the son of an Hungarian immigrant, who started out as a factory worker, had a dream and a vision that helped him start a restaurant in 1932. Tony created the “Hungarian hot dog”, and it became an instant neighborhood hit. Eighty plus years later, Tony Packo’s is now exporting overseas for international markets to enjoy.

Tony Packo’s Food Company is the producer of a variety of pickle products, chili, relishes, sauces, hot dogs and hot sauce for the wholesale, retail, private label and specialty/gourmet markets.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
