Trade Mission Success for New Jersey Supplier

by Food Export | Jul 08, 2016
Kontos Foods, Inc., based in Paterson, New Jersey, has produced premium-quality traditional Mediterranean products for over sixty years. The premier baker of hand-stretched flatbreads offers over fifty varieties of flatbreads and Pita breads, Fillo Dough and related pastries, along with premium grade USDA-approved Gyro and meat products, Greek Yogurt and Tzatziki sauce.

In April of 2014, Warren Stoll of Kontos Foods Inc. traveled to Montreal, Canada to attend the SIAL Canada show and utilize Food Export’s Food Show PLUS!™ services. These services included pre-arranged one-on-one meetings with Canadian buyers, a Canadian market briefing including in depth information about Canadian packaging and label regulations, along with on-site show services.

While Kontos Foods capitalized on the Food Show PLUS!™ services they were able to report growth in both existing and first time (new distribution) sales, which represents double-digit overall growth in the Canadian market for Kontos Foods. The manufacturer also projects 10%+ in sales growth for this market over the next twelve months.

Kontos has participated in Food Export activities since 2013, attending Buyers Missions, using Food Show PLUS!™ services, and the Branded Program. They work in the retail and food service market segments.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
