Cooperative Uses Branded Funds to Increase Export Sales

by Food Export | Jul 07, 2016
Organic Valley Family of Farms, a Cooperative owned by 1,800 Farmers around the U.S., has used Food Export to participate in many Buyers Missions, Webinars and the Branded Program since 2001. Each program offered Organic Valley the chance to start business in a new market or grow business in existing markets.

As a result of the Buyers Missions, Organic Valley was able to increase sales $200,000 YTD. Due to Food Export's Branded Program, they were able to increase overall sales by 5%.

Kevin Schleicher, Global Sales Coordinator says, “The funding and knowledge the Branded Program provides is crucial for global business because exporting can be costly and risky. It takes time and money to setup this business, but ultimately it helps diversify our company’s sales to protect our future business”.

Increase in global sales has caused Organic Valley to hire two Sales Managers and a few Customer Service, Quality Assurance and Accounting Members. It has made a positive impact.

Organic Valley offers 300+ dairy and meat sku’s. All products are organic with many of the goods certified halal and kosher. They mostly sell into the retail channel for goods promoted through food export.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
