Success in Taiwan: International Trade Show Brings Seafood Leads Back to Northeast U.S.

In 2019, we had success exhibiting for the first time at the Taiwan International Fisheries & Seafood Show and wanted to share this success story in a market that doesn’t always have industry participation.

Food Export–Northeast coordinates industry participation at all the major offshore international seafood shows, as well as numerous smaller shows, where it may not be possible for the region’s seafood producers to participate because of timing conflicts, show size, and other constraints. In 2019, we had success exhibiting for the first time at the Taiwan International Fisheries & Seafood Show and wanted to share this success story in a market that doesn’t always have industry participation.

Delivering a Top-Notch Seafood Experience to Taiwanese Buyers

To prepare for this new exhibition opportunity, Food Export–Northeast spent time leading up to the Taiwan trade show securing marketing collateral from various Northeast US suppliers to showcase their products. During the exhibition, we conducted chef demonstrations showcasing American lobster. Our In-Market Representative had one-on-one meetings with key Taiwanese seafood buyers, which resulted in 13 qualified trade leads. The leads were distributed to appropriate Northeast US seafood suppliers. Product interest ranged from American Lobster (live and frozen), scallops, Jonah crab, oysters, and razor clams. Some of these buyers were later invited to attend the upcoming Seafood Buyers Mission in March 2020, which will provide suppliers the opportunity to connect in-person with these new buyers.

The Results: Positive Outcomes for Northeast US Suppliers

Based on this positive outcome, Food Export–Northeast plans to exhibit at the Taiwan show in 2020. We also plan to expand this type of effort by our In-Market Representatives at several additional 2020 trade shows. The work of our In-Market Representatives at these additional shows can be an extension of a supplier’s marketing efforts and can lead to more buyer connections. Contact us to learn more about the where this no-cost service for distributing seafood company materials is being planned for 2020. To date, participation at six of these second-tier seafood shows is being planned. Let us also know if there are additional shows that we should consider offering these services on your behalf.

As we continue to expand our footprint across the globe, we want suppliers to know we’re looking out for their best interests every step of the way.
