Connect and Drive Sales
It is clear China’s increased wealth had led to an increase in consumption of imported food and agricultural products. Chinese imports of U.S. food and agricultural products increased from US$13.1 billion in 2009 to US$24.5 billion in 2014. That represented an increase of 87%. In 2015, U.S. exports of consumer oriented food products to China amounted to US$1.9 billion. China remains the 6th largest market for consumer ready food products from the U.S. China also remains the 5th largest market for the export of U.S. processed foods, totaling US$1.6 billion in 2015.

Food consumption patterns in China have changed significantly as living standards have risen and more consumers are exposed to a greater diversity of choice, both locally and through travel abroad. Chinese consumers are becoming increasingly discerning and more are seeking the following qualities when making purchases. Nutritional value: consumer concern over health is growing continuously. Attractive packaging: Chinese consumers are easily attracted by exquisite packaging and will often pay a premium for it. Brand-conscious: brand halo effects are strong among consumers and can extend to countries considered famous for those products regardless of the brand itself. International: consumers equate international products and experiences with a better lifestyle. And finally, Convenience has a great deal to do with their shopping habits and retailers are responding to that in major ways.

Trade Mission to China Increases Exports for Pennsylvania Company
Pennsylvania based Giorgio Foods continues to see export expansion opportunities overseas.  A four year participant of Food Export activities, Giorgio Foods continues to see the value of the Focused Trade Mission. Most recently David Roemer, Executive Sales; Leonard Haung, Sales Consultant and John Eccleston, International Executive Chef/International Business traveled to China with Food Export as part of the Focused Trade Mission for Food Service and Healthy Products.

Giorgio Foods located in Temple, Pennsylvania, the 6th Congressional District, made new export sales as a result of attending Food Export’s Focused Trade Mission to China. The mission paired Giorgio Foods with qualified Chinese Buyers and they were able to report over $1M in actual sales as a result of the activity. Giorgio Foods expects to increase export sales to China within the next 12 months as a result of this activity, by $2M. With over ten new, pre-qualified foreign Buyers contacts and a new established distributorship as a result of this mission, Giorgio Foods is on their way to expand their exports to the Chinese market.

Established in 1928, Giorgio Foods continues to grow and expand with stressed value on “continuous improvement” in everything they undertake – from the growing and processing to service and delivery. Virtually all of their mushrooms are grown and handpicked from one of their three mushroom growing farms. Every month, twelve months a year, they produce millions of pounds of mushrooms.
