The Northeast’s Bounty
The Northeast has a bounty of diverse agriculture including fruits (cranberries, blueberries, wild blueberries, and apples), wine, dairy products, snack foods and maple syrup to name just a few.
Host to a large, well developed food processing industry covering all aspects of the food industry, the Northeast is home to a multitude of value-added products ranging from the organic, kosher, specialty/gourmet, food service and ethnic market segments. Check out our most recent Annual Report and learn about how Food Export-Northeast benefits companies and impacts the Northeastern region.
Founded in 1973, our organization was first created as a cooperative effort between 10 Northeastern state agricultural promotion agencies and the United States Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). See our member states on our State Agricultural Promotion Agencies page.
Food Export-Northeast is one of four State Regional Trade Groups (SRTG's) that assists companies with export promotion. Three other regional groups, Food Export Association of the Midwest USA, SUSTA and WUSATA provide similar services for companies based or sourcing product from outside of the Food Export-Northeast 10-state region.
Partnership with Food Export-Midwest
Food Export-Northeast and Food Export-Midwest formed a strategic partnership to increase their ability to promote high-value U.S. food and agricultural products. Food Export-Northeast and Food Export-Midwest are two of four nationwide State Regional Trade Groups (SRTGs) that are dedicated to helping U.S. food and agricultural companies sell their products in international markets.
Food and agricultural exporters throughout the Northeast and Midwest benefit from the alliance. U.S. companies experience improved program effectiveness, more consistent export services, streamlined operations, and more opportunities in a broader range of markets. Food Export-Northeast concentrates its efforts primarily in Canada, Europe and the Middle East, while Food Export-Midwest primarily focuses its efforts in Latin America and Asia.
The agreement, which has been in effect since April 1, 2000, ensures that the organizations retain their independent status. Marketing efforts continue to be carried out by Food Export-Northeast's staff in Philadelphia and Food Export-Midwest's staff in Chicago, with support from international marketing personnel at each region's member state agricultural agencies.
Tim Hamilton serves as the Executive Director of both organizations. Mr. Hamilton has worked at Food Export-Midwest since 1991.
