November 2023 was a busy month for Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast. Check out all the events we hosted and attended in our monthly recap blog!

Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast’s mission has always been to help U.S. companies increase their export sales. One of the main ways we do that is by attending and hosting events around the globe. In this monthly blog we highlight everywhere we went and everything we did during November 2023!

Agribusiness Trade Mission to Southeast Asia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore
October 30 – November 3, 2023

Food Export’s Chief Programs Operator, Teresa Miller, traveled to Malaysia and Singapore to participate in the USDA Trade Mission to Southeast Asia. Since the demand for U.S. products in both Malaysia and Singapore continues to grow, this is an opportunity for US exporters to strengthen their relationships with importers in the region.

Trade mission participants learned from government and industry leaders about local market conditions and visited local retail stores and food manufacturers. The Southeast Asian markets provide both a source of stability for American exports and venue to further expand U.S. trade in the region.

USAEDC Conference
Baltimore, MD
November 13 – 15, 2023

Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast staff members attended the U.S. Agricultural Export Development Council (USAEDC) Annual Workshop in Baltimore. USAEDC is composed of commodity trade associations, farmer cooperatives, and state regional trade groups that represent the export efforts of US growers and processors. Members work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) to increase worldwide knowledge of U.S. agricultural exports.

USAEDC serves as a resource for regulatory and legislative issues that may impact exports, a media voice for export development programs, and a platform to discuss the operation and implementation of these programs. In addition to the export program funding, member campaigns in foreign markets, and sustainability updates, the topic on everyone’s lips this year was the highly anticipated Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP).

This year is also celebrating USAEDC’s 40th anniversary.

Private Label Buyers Mission at the Private Label Manufacturers Association Show
Rosemont, IL
November 12 – 13, 2023

Food Export-Midwest hosted the annual Private Label Buyers Mission at the PLMA Show. Our In-Market Representative Francisco Marcucci (who covers Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras) and Activity Coordinator Maureen Coughlin joined Food Export staff in Rosemont, IL.

The PLMA Show is an excellent venue to meet new vendors, reconnect with current vendors, and discover innovative products. This year, 217 meetings were held with 30 suppliers and 14 buyers from 10 different countries. The initial reports show over $4 Million in projected export sales.

Private label brands provide consumers with top quality and unique products. As consumers become more informed about the value of their products, private label brands have emerged as an alternative to the big national brands. The private label sector is an attractive market segment for many of the U.S. suppliers that utilize our programs and services since we have several Market Entry Activities that are specific to the Private Label industry. Find out more about our Market Entry Activities on our website.
