Founded in 2017 and based in Omaha, Nebraska, Omaha Protein Popcorn is a woman-owned company producing specialty gourmet popcorn that delivers both indulgent flavor and nutritional value. Their products offer a protein-packed twist on traditional popcorn, providing a nutritious snack without compromising taste.
The company began exporting in 2022 and joined Food Export–Midwest programs in 2023 to accelerate its international growth. Since then, Omaha Protein Popcorn has actively engaged in multiple export-promotion activities, including Buyers Missions, webinars, Product Showcase events, and Focused Trade Missions—all designed to build global awareness and connect them with high-value international buyers.
In 2024, the Nebraska supplier participated in two Food Export Buyers Missions that significantly expanded their international network. At the Specialty Food Buyers Mission at Winter Fancy Food, Omaha Protein Popcorn met with buyers from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Estonia, Guatemala, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Thailand. These introductions generated strong interest, resulting in $75,000 in projected sales over twelve months from buyers representing Canada, Brazil, Thailand, Chile, and Estonia.
Their momentum continued at the Specialty Food Buyers Mission held during the 2024 Summer Fancy Food Show. There, the supplier connected with buyers from Canada, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Iceland, Korea, Peru, Spain, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. The company secured three new distributorships and anticipates over $56,000 in combined projected sales to new markets including Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Iceland.
Through its participation in Food Export–Midwest programs, Omaha Protein Popcorn has significantly expanded its global reach, built valuable international relationships, and strengthened its export sales pipeline—positioning the company for continued international success.
Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
