Today, the age of international exporting has made trade more accessible than ever before. Still, taking your business from domestic shipping to international sales can get challenging quickly.
In a recent webinar, “Online Resources for Export Market Research,” Export Education Coordinator, Dennis Lynch, provided valuable guidance and introduced a variety of helpful websites to start your export journey on the right foot.
In a sea of overwhelming information, Dennis highlighted several key resources that are worth bookmarking.

1. FoodExport.org
A great starting point for new suppliers, Food Export’s website offers in-depth modules and bite-sized interactive lessons designed to teach how the industry works. Just like this webinar, there are many more covering specific topics related to exporting.
If you’re considering a specific country, the Market Country Profiles are especially helpful. They simplify demographic trends and consumer preferences, helping you evaluate whether your product would succeed in that market.
2. Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS)
This U.S. Department of Agriculture program allows you to analyze how your product is performing in international markets. With access to data from over 80 U.S.-affiliated foreign offices, you can compare countries, products, and historical trends to identify your top five potential export markets.
Under the Data Analysis tab, click on GAIN reports to access Annual Country Reports and detailed certification requirements, another essential part of the export process.
3. International Trade Administration (ITA)
Looking into free trade agreements? The ITA can help clarify if your product qualifies duty-free access under existing agreements. Simply search by FTA rates, your product, and your destination country. Knowing this in advance helps you understand market viability and simplifies the paperwork regarding duty taxes.
