Brazil
Pet Market on Track for Major Expansion
Brazil’s pet industry is booming. The total pet population is expected to reach 101 million by 2030—a 26% increase from 2019. This growth is fueled by improved veterinary care, better nutrition, and increasing pet ownership. Companies like Brazilian Pet Foods are leading the charge by delivering innovative, high-quality pet food products. Longer pet lifespans are also driving continuous demand for premium pet health and wellness solutions.
Rapid Growth in E-Commerce for Food and Beverage
Brazil’s e-commerce sector for food and beverages grew 18.4% in 2024, reaching R$16 billion in sales. Online grocery shopping has become mainstream, with 60% of consumers purchasing food digitally. Convenience, product diversity, and accessibility are key factors influencing this shift. This trend presents strong opportunities for U.S. exporters with shelf-stable or direct-to-consumer offerings.
Expanding Non-Alcoholic Beverage Market
In 2024, Brazil consumed over 29 billion liters of non-alcoholic beverages, securing its position as the world’s sixth-largest market in this category. The sector is projected to grow another 10% by 2028. Health-conscious Brazilian consumers are increasingly seeking out low-sugar, functional, and natural beverage options. This shift mirrors global trends and aligns with broader consumer interest in wellness-focused products.
Health and Sustainability Drive Functional Food and Plant-Based Demand
Post-pandemic awareness around digestive health and immune system support has led to rising demand for products containing probiotics, fiber, and other functional ingredients. Foods with digestive health claims are increasingly prominent across retail channels.
In parallel, Brazil is experiencing a surge in interest in plant-based alternatives. Consumers are prioritizing products that are not only healthy and minimally processed but also environmentally friendly. Taste and texture continue to be crucial purchasing factors, pushing companies toward innovation in formulation and product development.
