Chicago Style Bagel Chip Exports to Canada Increase

In 2018, Hometown Bagel, located in Alsip, Illinois in the 1st Congressional District participated in the Food Export – Midwest Branded Program. Hometown Bagel is a family owned and operated small business that was established in 1995 and has been participating in Food Export – Midwest programs and services since 2014.

As a result of utilizing their Branded Program funds they were able to report $75,000 in new export sales to the Canadian market and project and additional $115,000 in export sales to the market as a result of 2018 efforts.  They also reported 6 new foreign contacts made and 2 new agent relationships established.

In 2018 they exhibited at the following U.S. trade shows: Winter Fancy Food Show, Natural Products Expo West, Natural Products Expo East, Sweets and Snacks Expo, and the International Dairy Deli Bakery Expo (IDDBA). All of these shows draw a lot of international attention and attract foreign buyers helping to increase Hometown Bagel’s presence and brand in various international markets.

They have also participated in our online Webinars, our Online Product Catalog, the Food Export Helpline, Buyers Missions, and Food Show PLUS! program throughout the years.

Starting with their first retail location in Hometown, Illinois (hence their company name) their mission has always been to serve quality bagels in the Chicago-land area.  They have now expanded their operations and their products can be found in stores across America and in 8 countries around the globe. Their bagel chips are all natural, made from real bagels, and come in 5 distinct flavors: Sea Salt, Jalapeno, Everything, Garlic, and Cinnamon Crunch.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
