Massachusetts Supplier Increases Apple Cider Vinegar Exports to Canada

by Food Export | Feb 14, 2019
In 2018, Shire City Herbals Inc. dba Fire Cider, located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in the 1st Congressional District participated in Food Export-Northeast’s Branded Program.

Fire Cider is a USDA certified organic spicy, sweet, and tangy apple cider vinegar and honey tonic infused with roots, fruits, and spices.

In 2018 they decided to focus heavily on the Canadian market, which is currently ranked as the #1 export market for U.S. food and ag products by the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).  Due to its proximity to the U.S. and long standing trade relationship it can be a great export market for those who are newer to exporting.

Last year Fire Cider utilized their Branded Program funding to exhibit at three Canadian tradeshows, CHFA West, CHFA East, and SIAL Canada.

As a result of their efforts in the Canadian market they have reported $200,000 in actual sales and $500,000 in projected sales to come from their efforts in 2018. As well as making 3 new foreign contacts and 3 new agent relationships.

Fire Cider has also taken advantage of our Export Advisor Program, Market Builder Program, Online Product Catalog, and our recorded Webinars to help continue to expand their Export Education.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
