Branded Program Continues to Help Increase Exports from New York Supplier to Canada

by Food Export | Jul 19, 2017
Hauppauge, New York-based business Clever Cookie utilizes Food Export’s Market Access Program (MAP) funded Branded Program to help expand their export sales. In 2016, the company focused their export efforts on Canada because they saw trends there were mirroring those happening in the United States and both countries had similar needs. Clever Cookie was able to report sales of $816,000 last year due to contacts made at trade shows and funding and support received through Food Export.

Lisa Saffeir, Co-Owner of Clever Cookies, said, “We touched base with a major retailer after a trade show that lead to sales into Canada.  We are looking forward to introducing more items into that market this year in Canada as well as to introduce our unique cookie products into Dubai and South Korea in 2018”.

Clever Cookie was started by two creative and energetic entrepreneurs, Lisa and David in 1991. These savvy siblings did much more than bake cookies; they created fun by showing the world an exciting way to “say it with cookies instead”. What started off as a small business, steadily turned into a cookie empire. The doughy duo quickly learned that their cookie arrangements had become the perfect gift for every occasion, party and holiday.Clever Cookie

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
