New York Bagel Supplier Increases Exports to China

by Food Export | Jan 30, 2017
Food Export’s Food Service Buyers Mission at the National Restaurant Association Show is an annual event that represents one of their most important foodservice products Buyers Missions in the U.S. This Buyers Mission offers U.S. suppliers the opportunity to meet in a face-to-face setting with pre-screened, pre-qualified international buyers from all over the world.

In May of 2016, John Costello, Sales Manager of Just Bagels Manufacturing Inc. from Bronx, New York, attended the Buyers Mission. There he met with the seven pre-qualified Buyers that he selected to meet with and presented to them Just Bagel’s.

After a very productive meeting with the buyer from China, the New York Supplier was able to report new export sales of over $300,000. This sales represents a first-time export sale to China for Just Bagels Manufacturing Inc.

Started in 1992 as a retail bagel store, Just Bagels was a local favorite and now they can be found throughout the United States at the finest restaurants, hotels, and retail stores. Their old fashioned water bagels are kettle boiled with the finest ingredients for the ultimate bagel crunch on the outside yet chewy on the inside. They export to France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Belgium, Chile, Ireland, Israel, England, Hong Kong and now China.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
