New Exports to Bermuda & St. Maarten for Indiana Supplier

In June of 2016, Eric Gloe, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Clabber Girl traveled to Miami, Florida to participate in Food Export’s 2016 Caribbean & Central American Buyers Mission for Retail & Food Service Products. There Gloe met with buyers he pre-selected from Bermuda, Cayman, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, St. Maarten, Guatemala and Turks and Caicos.

With a strong interest in the suppliers line of bakery and confectionary ingredients the buyers from Bermuda and St. Maarten were very engaged. Post meeting follow up resulted in Clabber Girl gaining new export sales to Bermuda in the amount of $8,500 with $20,000 more projected over the next twelve months, a sale that marks a 20% increase in export sales to the market. The buyer from St. Maarten was also very interested in Clabber Girl’s products and that resulted in $7,000 in actual sales with projected sales of $20,000 over the next twelve months.

Clabber Girl has worked with Food Export Association since 2001, participating in Buyers Missions, attending Focused Trade Missions, utilizing Food Show PLUS!™ services, attending state seminars, webinars and participating in the Branded Program.

Clabber Girl Corporation grew from the original business that was incorporated over 150 years ago. By 1879 Clabber Girl was manufacturing a variety of products, including spices, coffees, and baking powder under many different brand names. By 1899 Clabber brand baking powder was introduced, and today the Clabber Girl brand, as renamed in 1923, is distributed nationwide and to many different countries around the world. The business has expanded its foodservice offerings to include baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and the Royal brand products which include cheesecakes, puddings and gelatins. Industrial formulations are designed specifically for the foodservice industry. As a manufacturer of food products, Clabber Girl continues to address the needs of the food industry by providing the first peanut-free manufacturing facility in the United States.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
