Ohio Supplement Manufacturer Grows Korean Exports

by Food Export | Jul 11, 2016
Exporting products around the world has always been a focus for Ohio-based Graminex LLC, and with their recent participation in Food Export’s Food Ingredients Buyers Mission, the company is expanding their global presence with increased sales in South Korea.

The 2015 Food Ingredients Buyers Mission at the 2015 Institute of Food Technologists Show allowed Graminex to connect with distributors from South Korea, Vietnam, Colombia, and the Philippines. Talks with the South Korean distributor succeeded in securing a sale of $30,000. This relationship has also positioned Graminex for long-term success, as annual sales of at least $30,000 are expected to continue with this distributor moving forward. According to the Graminex’s Public Relations Director, Colleen May, negotiations with the three other distributors are looking promising, with sales expected to result in the coming year.

When Graminex first opened its doors in 1997, a majority of sales that took place were to international customers. Today, exports make up nearly 70% of all sales to the company, with the export region being Southeast Asia, followed by Europe and Russia. Graminex has successfully utilized a variety of Food Export programs and resources to achieve this international success, including the Branded Program, Market Builder research reports, as well as Buyers Missions. In regards to the Food Ingredients Buyers Mission, Colleen states that, “for your time and money invested, you are never going to find anything export-wise that would be as beneficial to the company.”

Graminex LLC is located in the city of Deshler, Ohio, within Ohio’s 5th Congressional District, and manufactures dietary supplements for both human and animal consumption.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
