Export Success Grows North Dakota Flaxseed Business

by Food Export | Jul 11, 2016
Premium Gold Flax Products, Inc. is operated by the 6th generation Miller Family Farm. The women owned family business is located in Denhoff, North Dakota. They have been raising and harvesting flaxseed in central North Dakota since the turn of the century. Their specialty product, flaxseed, is hand selected and their cold milling process is unique to the family farm.

They have made use of Food Export services for many years. One of the recent activities they participated in was the Specialty Foods Buyers Mission at the 2015 Summer Fancy Food Show, in June 2015. At this Buyers Mission, 18 buyers from all over the world were present. After Deborah Miller, Co-Owner and Vice President of Premium Gold Flax Products, met with the buyers during the mission, they made six sales to foreign markets, including a first time sale to Antigua. They increased their export sales by $16,000 by selling their products to markets in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and North America. As a result of these sales after the Buyers Mission in New York, Premium Gold Flax Products, Inc. was able to add an extra staff member to their team.

The Miller family is proud to be involved in every phase of the production process. Their products are non GMO and do not contain any additives or preservatives, and all milling and much of the packaging takes place in their certified allergen free facilities.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
