Partnerships for Export Success

by Food Export | Jul 07, 2016
Food Export-Midwest is one of many export assistance providers that works with agricultural suppliers in the Midwest. Whenever possible, we partner with these other organizations to provide a more holistic experience to the agricultural exporters we assist. One such organization is the North Dakota Trade Office (NDTO), located in Fargo, North Dakota.

In March 2015, NDTO held its annual Food-Grade Soybeans Trade Mission to Singapore. The Food Export staff worked closely with NDTO to ensure that this trade mission met the reimbursement requirements of Food Export’s Branded Program. The Branded Program reimburses for 50% of international marketing expenses, including travel costs associated with trade missions, for small Midwest agricultural suppliers. JB Global, located in Burnsville, Minnesota, in the 2nd Congressional District, attended the trade mission and received reimbursement through the Branded Program for their flights, hotel, and meals. While on this trade mission, JB Global met several buyers from Singapore interested in their products. Since the trade mission, JB Global is in negotiations with two to three of these buyers for potential export sales to Singapore.

According to Jeff Pricco, Export Manager at JB Global, “As a small company with a focus on efficiency of time and resources, but with a strong export customer base we rely on Food Export’s Branded Program to allow us to conduct marketing and relationship building with existing and new customers. Our participation in the effective NDTO trade missions targeted to our products has been very effective at maintaining and growing our business in our key Asian markets.”

Jeff continues, “We have worked with Food Export and the Branded Program for several years allowing us to expand our markets in Asia and the Middle East.  Most recently in the past several years we participated with the North Dakota Trade Office in their targeted trade missions for food soybeans in Southeast Asia and China.  The NDTO agendas are both economical and effective, and their staff is export oriented and knowledgeable.  As a small company with limited staff we have been able to expand our market and grow our business significantly.”
NDTO finds benefit in this cooperation as well. According to Dean Gorder, Executive Director at NDTO, “Many NDTO members and participants in the Branded Program are small-to-medium sized companies, so frequent international trips are not always financially feasible.  The financial support the Branded Program gives these companies helps strengthen their relationships with international customers and significantly increases exports from North Dakota.”

JB Global is a producer of food-grade soybeans for the food ingredient sector. The North Dakota Trade Office and its network of International Business Resources provide a full range of services to assist North Dakota’s emerging and experienced global businesses throughout the export process.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
