Shumway Popcorn Exports to Canada

by Food Export | Jul 06, 2016
Shumway Farms Theater Style Popcorn LLC, a small Michigan based, family-owned popcorn company, has utilized many of Food Export’s services. By the help of Food Export’s Market Builder program, Shumway Farms has been able to find the right market and buyer for them.

Working closely with Food Export’s In-Market Representative to help them navigate the market, Shumway Farms made sales to Tootsie Impex Inc. located in Quebec, Canada. Tootsie Impex Inc. purchased 100 50-pound bags of popcorn in May (5,000 pounds). Actual sales amounted to $1050.00 USD. Shumway Farms has been in contact with Tootsie Impex and future plans for more exports are in the works.  Ed Shumway says they plan to purchase more in about one month.  Popcorn is a new line for Tootsie Impex and they are expecting the popcorn line to grow.

The Shumway family has a long history. They first arrived on the Tekonsha farm in 1856. Ed Shumway began growing popcorn in 1991 and by 2000 Shumway Farms Theater Style Popcorn LLC was established. Today, the youngest junior employee will be the eighth generation to work on the farm. Quality home-grown Shumway popcorn can be found domestically and internationally.

Shumway Farm has utilized many of Food Export’s services including the Helpline™, Market Builder, and webinars. They are registered for the upcoming Focused Trade Mission to Canada and Midwest Buyers Mission this year to help them further grow their export business. Ed Shumway of Shumway Farms Theater Style Popcorn LLC says “I have only been getting assistance from Food Export a couple months, but I am impressed and appreciative!”

Food Export’s Market Builders offer customized packages to U.S. Suppliers that help them find the right market and buyer. The service offers importer feedback, competitive market research, importation analysis, distributor referrals and importer lists, and assistance with in-market meetings.
