No Small Potatoes! Pennsylvania Firm Makes Dough Shipping Bread to the Middle East

by Food Export | Jul 06, 2016
In December of 2014, Vectra Trading, located in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, in the 13th Congressional District, attended Food Export’s Focused Trade Mission to the Middle East where they were introduced to a UAE based buyer while visiting Saudi Arabia who was interested in procuring potato rolls from the U.S. Joshua Dillard, Food Export USA – Northeast’s Branded Program Manager, who was traveling on the mission, helped connect Vectra Trading to Tom Mainzer, Agricultural Trade Specialist with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Mr. Mainzer had a connection at a major Pennsylvania based producer of potato rolls and connected Vectra to the company.

According to Amy Mody, President at Vectra Trading, “We already have a strong position in the Middle East for liquid shortenings, but with small marketing budgets, our ability to grow our business through product diversification can be a challenge.  Thanks to the Food Export Focused Trade Mission and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, we were able to start specializing in new products and develop new export partners in the region.” As a result, Vectra Trading has exported nearly $250,000 worth of potato rolls to the Middle East, hired a new team member to assist with logistics, and become a trusted exporting partner for the supplier, gaining additional leads in Germany and New Zealand.

Vectra Trading is an export management company committed to providing quality food products and customer service to clients worldwide and operates as an intermediary between key North American manufacturers and international import/distribution companies.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
