Hometown Bagel Inc. is the family owned business of Mike and Dawn Lally. Since 1995, they have been selling quality bagels and bagel chips in the greater Chicago area. Today, their bagels and bagel chips can be found all over the world. By participating in over 17 events and services that Food Export offers, Hometown Bagel Inc. has been able to sell product in over thirty states and bagel chips in eight countries outside the U.S.

Recently, Hometown Bagel Inc. participated in the Sweets and Snacks Buyers Mission at the Sweets and Snacks Expo in 2014. Relationships soon began with buyers in China and the United Kingdom. Making these two new contacts, Hometown Bagel Inc. was able to successfully increase their export sales by September of 2014. Sales amounted to $20,000 for the UK and $40,000 for China. With business booming, Hometown Bagel as had to hire six new employees.

These Buyer Missions, just like the one Hometown Bagel Inc. attended, bring qualified international buyers to the U.S. to meet U.S. suppliers. These events create great opportunities for buyers and suppliers to meet one-on-one and build long-laHometownBagelsting trade relationships.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
