Ginseng Sales Soar With Help of Food Export's Branded Program

by Food Export | Jul 06, 2016
Marathon Ginseng was only a few years old when it first applied for Food Export Association’s Branded Program. In 2014 they used their branded funds to support the production of a TV documentary on Wisconsin Ginseng, which was aired on Chinese public television to millions of viewers.

The publicity from the broadcast not only led to increased interest in their products from the general public but also a working relationship with several leading distributors in China.  As a result retail sales have increased by 50%, with wholesale expected to increase by $300,000 to $500,000 in 2014-2015 seasons.

Founded in Weston, Wisconsin in 2010 Marathon Ginseng is still relatively new.  Dr. Ming Tao Jiang moved to Wisconsin in 1996 and relocated in Marathon County in 2009.  It was here among the ginseng gardens the led him to a better understanding of the benefits that come from Wisconsin Ginseng.  Since then he has rapidly found success in marketing Wisconsin Ginseng to Asian Markets who are eager to obtain that state’s product.

Food Exportt uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
