Buyers Mission Builds Export Sales for Chicago Supplier

by Food Export | Jul 06, 2016
Since 1898 the La Preferida family has been involved in the food business. Over one hundred and fifteen years and four generations of family, La Preferida continues to be supported by strong customer loyalty in several of America’s major markets.

In July 2014, Mr. James Hurley, President of La Preferida, Inc., from the 3rd Congressional District of Chicago, Illinois participated in Food Export’s Midwest Buyers Mission. For the mission La Preferida had pre-selected ten Buyers to meet with and present their product line. These buyers represented China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. As a result of these meeting ten new buyer contacts were made and La Preferida was able to report a sale to Hong Kong of $50,000 and project another $50,000 of sales of the next twelve months. Sales were also projected for $50,000 to both the United Arab Emirates and Costa Rica. The sale to Costa Rica marks a new distributor in the market.

La Preferida offers a full line of more than 200 authentic Mexican food items, including frijoles, salsas and jalapeños in the retail and food service market segments. For more information about this company and their products visit their website at: www.lapreferida.com.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
