Bella Bella Gourmet Foods Exports to Mexico

by Food Export | Jul 06, 2016
Bella Bella Gourmet Foods of West Haven, Connecticut took the plunge this past summer and traveled to Mexico to take advantage of Food Export’s Rep Finder service. In September 2014, Bob Ambrose and Junny Gonzalez, of Bella Bella Gourmet Foods, traveled to Mexico to meet with different importers for their Moulard Duck Foie Gras. The trip was a result of Bella Bella Gourmet Foods’ use of Food Export's Rep Finder service through the Market Builder program. Rep Finder brings U.S. suppliers to foreign markets to make connections with a select and targeted group of interested buyers.

Bob Ambrose and Junny Gonzalez met with five importers and distributors for their Foie Gras, which sells within the Specialty Foods and Food Service sectors in Mexico. During the meetings, Bob Ambrose and Junny Gonzalez explained the features of their products and buyers were extremely interested thanks to the origin, quality and price of the Foie Gras for a Specialty Foods’ price-driven market such as Mexico.

As a result of these meetings, and introductions by Food Export, Bella Bella Gourmet Foods was able to secure one distributor for the Mexican territory with the possibility of a second distributor ordering in the Fall 2015. Bob Ambrose and Junny Gonzalez received two orders worth approximately $30,000.00. Bob Ambrose said, “Everyone that helped us with the entire process at Food Export was extremely courteous and knowledgeable.  The meetings that they set up for us were with qualified distributors that were very interested in what we do!” This success is exemplary of how Food Export’s Rep Finder service, via the facilitation of buyer introductions, can positively benefit U.S. suppliers when they meet with international decision makers.

Bella Bella Gourmet Foods is a direct source for Foie Gras, specialty meat, poultry, and game birds. They represent a group of farms in Sullivan County, New York that grow heirloom breeds of Chickens, Poussin, Partridge, Moulard Duck, Quail, Pintade, Rabbit, Mallard Duck, & Foie Gras for over 25 years. Bella’s chefs are constantly working to develop exciting new “products that taste like no other” for the animals on their free roaming farms.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products; as these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
