New Export Markets for Massachusetts Confectionery Supplier

As the Branded Program evolved and brought an end to the graduation limitation, the Lynn, Massachusetts supplier returned to the program in 2021.

Since returning to Food Export-Northeast’s Branded Program, Durkee Mower’s overall international sales increased by about $400,000 in 2021 compared to the 2020 year. The increase is largely contributed to promotions done during the 2021 year using Branded Program funds to promote in Marshmallow Fluff in China, Brazil, Israel, Poland, and Sweden. The company used their funds differently in each market but mainly to defer the costs of advertising, attending foreign trade shows, completing in-store sampling events, and producing/distributing promotional items.

They also gained 2 new foreign buyer contacts, established 2 new distributor relationships, one of them being Poland which alone contributed to about $130,000 increase in sales for the 2021 calendar year!

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
