Country Profile
India’s bulk, intermediate, consumer-oriented, fishery and forestry imports grew from US$13.2 billion in 2009 to US$24.5 billion in 2014. Exports jumped from US$16.8 billion in 2009 to US$43 billion in 2014, as well. Imports of consumer-oriented foods, led by tree nuts and fresh and dried fruits essentially have doubled since 2009 to US$3.9 billion.

As such an emerging market, India has good potential for the consumption of U.S. food and agricultural products. U.S. exports of consumer oriented foods reached US$795.4 million in 2015, another new record high by 28%. India now ranks 15th as an export market for U.S. consumer food products. Total U.S. agricultural exports from the U.S. to India also grew nearly 17% and almost US$1.2 billion for the first time, so also a new record high. India is also a modest importer of processed foods from the U.S. totaling US$131.6 million in 2015, up 15%.
