In 2016, U.S. exports of consumer oriented food products to China was US$2.2 billion. China remains the 6th largest market for consumer ready food products from the U.S. China also remains the 5th largest market for the export of U.S. processed foods, totaling US$1.7 billion in 2016. Retail sales in the packaged food market in China had been estimated to reach nearly US$226.3 billion in 2016. That represents a growth rate of 29.5% or US$51.5 billion since 2012. The forecast for growth in this market is outstanding. By the year 2021, the retail sales in the packaged food market in China are expected to reach nearly US$309.6 billion, a growth rate of 30.1% or US$71.5 billion.

Core Services Included: 

  • Market Briefing. Pre-show intelligence from local USDA staff, covering regulations, trends, key players and more.
  • Retail Tour.  With a self-guided retail tour, gain first-hand knowledge of the competitors, positioning, pricing and packaging of products that are on the store shelves in the Chinese market.
  • Meet Buyers. Based on the profile of U.S. company, their product line as well as their target for the market (meeting with importer/distributor, finding retail partners, seeking opportunities for E-commerce etc.), the In-Market Rep will reach out to specific pre-qualified buyers in their database and introduce the U.S. company/product to them. After obtaining the confirmation and interest from the buyer, match-making meetings will be set up and a meeting schedule with buyer profiles will be sent to the U.S. company prior to the show.
  • On-site Assistance.  Food Export’s In Market Representative will have a team onsite from setup day throughout to the last day of the show, providing assistance in booth setup, bringing buyers to the booth for meetings and other support if needed.
  • Post-Show Lead Analysis. U.S. companies can send trade leads to the In-Market Rep and the Rep will provide evaluation of the buyer quality.

  • Dedicated Interpreter/assistant for you booth
  • Professional translation of up to two pages of marketing material into the appropriate language
  • Store checks: Pre-event report with brand names, packages, sizes, pricing for products similar to yours.
  • Follow-up assistance: In-Market Representative will craft messages for your top prospects and monitor responses in order to facilitate your post-show follow up.

  • Snacks, dried fruit, tree nut, confectionery, sauces & condiments, biscuits & cookies, dairy, beverage, wine and frozen food could all find their own marketability and business opportunities in China.
  • Sensitive items on the China market include GMO food products and Organic Product (USDA organic seal is not accepted by the China government). Also banned items like poultry should be avoided. The China government has the CNCA registration requirement for overseas plants of meat, seafood and dairy. Those that are not listed as approved plants by CNCA might need to wait until their approval to join in the show.

Wisconsin Supplier Achieves Export Success in China
Badger State Fruit Processing, located in Pittsville, Wisconsin, is a family owned business and the largest independent supplier of cranberry products in the United States.  They note that, “They are cranberry specialists.” Situated in the heart of cranberry country, they do it all. This Wisconsin supplier prides themselves on being cranberry growers, cranberry processors, cranberry warehousers and cranberry transporters.

In May of 2015, Badger State Fruit Processing attended the SIAL China Show in Shanghai, China. They utilized Food Export’s Food Show PLUS!™ services to enhance their tradeshow experience. Through pre-arranged buyer meetings the Wisconsin supplier was able to report $200,000 in sales after the show. This sale marks a 20% increase in export sales and a first time sale to China.

Badger State Fruit Processing has annual production of over 2 million gallons of cranberry juice concentrate and 5 million gallons of single strength juice. Gardner added Premium Dried Cranberries to their product portfolio in 2013 with the completion of their state of the art sweetened dried cranberry facility. The annual production of the plant is 25 million pounds of finished product with further expansion to be completed in 2016. Badger State Fruit Processing works in the retail, food service and private label markets.
