The Southeast Asian region is defined as Union of Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, all members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN.  The region remains the 4th largest market for U.S. agricultural exports despite an off year.  These countries, accounted for nearly all of the US$10 billion in U.S. exports of food and agricultural products to the region in 2015, a decline of 12%.  Of that amount just over US$3.4 billion or nearly 34% were exports of consumer ready products.  There is a growing demand from consumers for Western-style food products and dependence on imported food items makes Southeast Asia an attractive market for U.S. food and agricultural exporters. 

The Southeast Asian region is also the 4th largest market for the export of U.S. processed foods as well, totaling US$3.3 billion in 2015, or nearly 33% of the agricultural total.

East-West International Group benefits from Food Export
In April 2016, East-West International Group, located in Moreland Hills, Ohio, in Ohio’s 14th Congressional District, participated in the Food Export’s Food Show PLUS!™ service offered at Food & Hotel Asia. While there, East-West made eight new buyer contacts, and established three new agent relationships throughout the Southeast Asia market. As a direct result of their experience, East-West International anticipates export sales of approximately $100,000 from buyers in Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

According to Jiunn-Der Wu, President of East-West International Group, “We had not participated in FHA show for many years due to the lack of serious buyers. This year we had participated both FHA and Food Show PLUS! and met so many serious buyers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China and Hong Kong. We are on the negotiating process for several orders and anticipated final outcome soon”.

Wu also mentioned that East-West International Group has recently closed deals for Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and Vietnam using Food Export and sponsored activities.
