The feed industry is one of the fastest growing in Brazil, owing the increasing meat consumption in the country and large meat export opportunities. The Brazilian feed ingredients market was valued at $9.9 billion in 2016. The market is expected to reach $12.5 billion by 2022. This market has been growing at a steady rate over the last 5 years.

The factors driving the market for feed ingredients in Brazil are the growing demand for meat and animal by-products due to increasing per capita income and changing diet patterns; increased food safety in the country and the growth and industrialization of the animal industry in Brazil.

Brazil is the world leader exporter for beef and poultry. In 2016 the total volume of feed consumption was 69 million tons. The most significant destination for feed in Brazil is to poultry, totaling 24.6 million tons, while ruminant’s reached 5.6 million tons. The market for swine and aquaculture feeding in Brazil are also remarkable and growing. The swine feed market reached 11.7 million tons while for aquaculture was 1 million ton, in 2016.

Though being the largest producer of animal feeding products in Latin America and the third largest in the world - behind China and the United States - Brazil still imports most of the additives used by the feed industry, such as vitamins, amino acids, enzymes and growth promoters.

The “Salão Internacional de Avicultura e Suinocultura” (International Show of Poultry and Swine Farming) will be held in São Paulo from Aug 29 to 31, 2017. The last edition of the show received 12,000  visitors, 1,000 producers, and 100 exhibitors from 50 countries. This show will be a great opportunity to develop new trade partners in the region.
