    Food Export Association of the Midwest (Food Export–Midwest) and Food Export USA–Northeast (Food Export–Northeast) are
    private, non-profit trade associations composed of Midwest and Northeast state agricultural promotion agencies. Our
    missions are the development and expansion of international markets for U.S. food and value-added agricultural products.
    We participate in the Market Access Program (MAP) of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of USDA. The associations are
    currently seeking to hire for its Communications Associate position, located in downtown Philadelphia, PA.

    Position Overview:

    Under the direction of the Communications Manager, with the Deputy Director in the Northeast on-site as point of contact as
    needed, this position supports the Communications Program in several areas, including website management and
    maintenance, content creation, and social media efforts. The Communications Associate will be cross-trained in a variety of
    duties and responsibilities in the Communications Program area.


    Responsible for maintenance of Food Export–Midwest and Food Export–Northeast website.

    • Leads efforts to update and maintain organization website.
    • Creates and updates website copy and other content using the Content Management System (CMS) Sitefinity.
    • Updates event pages in a timely manner based on internal requests.
    • Ensures compliance with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
    • Conducts quarterly audit of website to keep content current and up to date.
    • Tracks Key Performance Indicators using Google Analytics.
    • Coordinates efforts to secure supplier testimonials on Food Export–Midwest and Food Export–Northeast home pages.
    • Is cross-trained in other Communications Program area functions to assist with tasks and projects as needed.

    Responsible for content creation.

    • Coordinates the ongoing publishing of the Food Export blog, including planning appropriate content, writing blog posts, and coordinating content with other staff/program areas.
    • Prepares/updates presentations for Food Export–Midwest/Northeast and industry-wide events; sets-up and coordinates ongoing maintenance of Food Export master slide presentation templates for a variety of key audiences.
    • Is a key member of the recently launched Food Export Podcast. Responsibilities include planning and drafting content, recording episodes, and editing episodes with other members of the cross functional team.
    • Contributes to development of an annual content calendar/strategy that positions the organizations as thought leaders in the industry, educates new companies about exporting, and drives recruitment/participation in Food Export programs.

    Supports the associations’ social media efforts.

    • Supports Communications’ social media lead with planning and creation of a variety of engaging social media content, including written copy, images/graphics, and videos.
    • Responds to comments and inquiries on social media platforms.
    • Helps grow and maintain engagement among social media audience including suppliers, partners, buyers, vendors, and members on our various platforms.
    • Positions Food Export–Midwest and Northeast as thought leaders on international business for the industry, leveraging inputs from our international contractors, state members, federal funding agency, and other key stakeholders.
    • Works to develop increased brand awareness and online reputation for the associations.

    Undertakes special projects as may be assigned by the Supervisor or Executive Director that are important to Food Export–
    Midwest and Food Export–Northeast.

    • Four-year college degree in a related field.

    Work Experience:

    • 2 years’ experience in marketing, communications, website content management, digital marketing, journalism, social media, or a related field.
    • Non-profit or association experience is strongly preferred.
    • Experience in food, export, and/or agriculture is a plus.

    Core Competencies:

    • The position requires: excellent communication skills (verbal and written); attention to detail and accuracy; time management skills; a strong ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously; customer-service oriented; self-motivated with the ability to work independently and solve problems; proficiency with MS Office.
    • Must be able to professionally communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and responsibility levels both internally and externally. Must always represent the needs and best interest of the organization in a way that is consistent with organization goals and mission.
    • Experience with website content management and maintenance and a CMS is required (Sitefinity preferred).Possesses a working knowledge of principles of SEO including keyword research and Google Analytics.
    • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills are required. Experience with professional blogging and copywriting skills are strongly preferred.
    • Fluency with social media is preferred, including knowledge and understanding of current trends and best practices in social media.
    • Experience with photography and producing and editing video are preferred.

     Physical Demands/Work Environment:

    • Work is performed in a standard office environment. This position requires light duty physical work, conducting general office duties, participation in trade shows, and market promotions. Requirements include carrying multiple files and printed materials.  
    • Some travel may be required.
